Army Black Beret with Flash

Perhaps you have been following the controversy over the issuing of black berets to the entire U.S. Army. This is the beret. The elite Rangers were once the only U.S. soldiers who could wear black berets. Understandably many of these fine soldiers and heroes in various conflicts around the world are not happy about the replacement of ball cap-style field caps and other headgear with black berets. Others, like Army Chief of Staff General Eric Shinseki who ordered the change, feel that the berets look very professional and raise morale. This 100% wool beret is made by Parkhurst; it is the same beret that has been issued to the Army (see image insert of Parkhurst factory). The beret is emblazoned with a blue patch representing the Continental Army, with 13 stars for the original colonies.
